Hi everyone was just wondering if anyone has some experience with heaters in Mini's. In particular I am wondering what kind of heaters actually fit in a Morris Mini. I know the Cooper S, Deluxe style fit in there as I brought one for $20.00 years ago from a fellow I knew that use to wreck Minis all the time. But seeing how these heaters are very hard to come by now and usually sell for alot of money. I am wondering if there is another alternative? Such as the Clubman heater or the Rover heater and if you can use these is there any mods that need to be done? I realize the controls may be a problem. But if a console was made up then could these controls be installed into the console effectivly? Thanks.. |

A Clubman heater would work, just need a nice looking panel for the controls. Also Moke heaters

I have a couple of these heaters. 
No leaks, fan works. They could use a bit of a clean up $75 each.[edit] Sorry they are sold. |

One to investigate is the Datsun 120Y unit. Size might be an issue in a Mini, but I think it could be made to fit, and wouldn't look totally out of place.. The good thing about them is that they are a self contained unit, all the controls, blower, heater matrix, and tap are contained within. The hose diameters are the same size too. Early Datsun 1000/1200's may be worth a look as well - smaller than the 120Y, but rarer as well. |

I have a 68 model, but it's automatic and have been told that the heater needs to stay in there. |

Plastic Rover heaters are the same mounting and controls as Moke heaters. They need two hooks on the lower firewall and the control panel screws into the underside of the dash. Unlike Moke heaters, the Rover ones have the water hose fittings on the passenger side of the car so they are easier to fit. Moke or Rover should fit into any mini that doesn't have the big switch panel like Laylands had. You just need the fire wall hooks which can be made out of sheet and rivited into place (better welded but hard on a car that's not in bits). Hot air comes out the front of the unit or out of the vents that feed the demisters. It does not connect to the dash A/C vents. In the photo, there is an air conditioning cover panel that surrounds the heater controls. The plastic below the controls is the heater. 
I have a Rover plastic heater that I can sell from my 94 Mayfair (the one in the photo) but in Sydney you may find a local supplier is better because postage would be expensive. M |
