very interesting..... my mate is a mechanic and I hook up to his exhaust analyser occasionally, but it'd be good to have a mobile version

awdmoke is working on one I think?

It says on the first link: "Sensor required - available from most automotive stores. " Where does the EGO sensor go, exhaust?

Um I think it does Mick, the Jaycar blurb says "Leaded petrol engines will soon poison an EGO sensor, blah blah..."

Like Mine ?

Image

Nissa 3 wire sensor ($70 from Wrecker - N12 Pulsar) and a Jaycar LED Display kit....

Should have it set up on a "sniffer" setup soon, and later a "full-time" hookup witha bung in the exhaust manifold just after the turbo ....

Total cost is under $100 .....

Got a kit for that sitting here too ....

If i fitted all the Jaycar crap to my car that I've bought over the years, It would look like KITT !

But seriously, i like their kits, quick, simple and usually they work !!

With the nissan 3 wire, it should be able to just stick in the tailpipe... I'll mount it to a tube about 1" in diameter at a 90 angle ..... Sort of like this....

---------T-----------
----------------------

(I am sooo great at ASCII art !!)

hat way it should fir a number of tailpipes ... like the Mini, the Bike, Max's mini...... etc ...

truely portable I'm hoping.....

But I'll also get a bung put in my Dump pipe for a more "real-world" tuning setup ... the tailpipe one should give me "Ball-park" idle and free-rev readings, but not Load...

Sorry, didnt explain properly....

The Nissan Sesnsor has 3 wires.... one is the sensor (Black) and the other two (White) are the heating element.....

o2 sensors have to operate at a certain temperature in order for the deposits to get "burned" off the platinum electrode (ok, its close enough.. ok?)

If you use a single wire setup in the tailpipe arrangment, it will foul up and give you ultra-lean readings in about 30 seconds ......

Nissan ones (and some Holden.. but ALL Nissans!) have the heater and do not need the exhaust heat to clean them !!

Enjoy, now start building, people !
