Just split the motor which came of my cheap clubby to get the gearbox. The block is different to normal mini ones as it has more ribbing on the outside a different shape timing cover, and the distributer is a different length. Is this a rover 998 A+.

The slapping noise was cause a bearing had dissintegrated, otherwise in good nick I think.
Im getting rid of it (and the head) for a slab of coke.

Was going to keep the distributer as I need it and the caps so that I can swap for the one I need from brickworx. But if you have a normal mini one with cap in good nick, I am more than happy to swap with you.

Did later motors look different? Like this one? :?

Sounds like an A+ 998, I had one of those once.
Dizzy is held in by a forked plate, with 1 bolt.
Actually, A & A+ dizzys are about the same length, but drive dog is different. Dizzy goes straight into block- with no flange thingy.

See pics of my 1293A+ in A/A+ mods `how to fit a Pulsar dizzy to A+'.
998A+ block looks similar outside.

Thats the same looking motor, and same distributer thing you described. Where do they come from?

Well, the one in Barney came out of a late model 1275 Moke, no other Oz Minis got A+.

Your 998A+ is out of an import, or else the motor was imported as a spare.

A+ motors were released in UK around 1980.

If you have an A+ distributor then I would like to buy it from you. I do have a pre A+ distributor with vacuum advance I could swap for it but not sure of the condition.

A Pulsar will work in either A series or A+, just need to put the right drive dog on- and if A+, file the little fins off its body to fit the finger clamp in.
The one shown here in our A+ was in an A series already.

I have a spare 45D distributor in what seems to be fairly good condition ( New points at least) if thats any help to you.

Looks like the cap might be new too and the vaccuum advance is working.I bought it just before doing the Pulsar conversion and so have never fitted it.

How much are they worth these days ?.I can't remember what I paid for it at the time but knowing me it was probably too much.
Always open to reasonable offers in money or kind. Its just been sitting on the shelf for the last 18 months and probably won't get used except in an emergency.
