This might be a dumb question, but in mk1 4sp, 3x syncro box - how many syncro rings are there? Reason I ask is because I've been charged for 9x of them when building my gearbox but I would expect there to only be 3x of those rings? Thanks, Jacks. |

If the baulk ring (and gear's taper) is any good, there should be about .030" or more clearance between the back of ring and the dogs on the gear. This is with ring sitting square. Good rings sit on the gear taper properly- sadly, many current aftermarket ones don't, they are oval and/or have wrong taper. Rover ones are reputedly best available now, if you can get them. Baulk rings for 3 & 4 synchro boxes are the same. ![]() |

Rad97 - My Rover had some Boom Crash Opera (the Opera bit is when you yell out "Fark!" after doing the gearchange) happening on 2nd gear, and now it has been well and truly sorted out by Brickworx. ![]() |

Not that Rover ones are near as good as the old 3 synchro ones from yesteryear, but they are best around now.. ![]() |

Iv'e just pulled apart and cleaned all the parts from an old 3 syncro box and have noticed where the baulk ring sits on its coresponding cone there is a material stuck on the steel which has broken away. This material looks like it grips the baulk ring. Anyway i spose this material isn't replacable and this means those parts are stuffed. |
