Yes that is a 1275LS, well picked up, I saw that on ebay and just browsed over it, thinking hmm just another leyland mini.

Looks like a really good project, definitely worth saving in my opinion

They stopped making Minis in October 78. The number on that car is older than my September built car.

But you have to realise that the numbers were stamped onto the compliance plate when the car was being sent to the dealer. So it is possible for a car to have a later date than it should.

I have been told, from a number of people that there are a few with ??/79 stamped on them.

I have been told that too, there have been a few people on Ausmini that said their cars were 79's.
But I have never actually seen a compliance plate with 79 stamped on it.

While I have never seen a 79 stamped 1275 LS, I did see a (998) LS stamped Feb 79. Absoulte rust bucket.

It could be a typo, he might have meant "free rust".

I have mentioned this before im sure

I have a mate who used to work at a leyland/bmc dealer and he was telling me once that when he was working they had a brand new cooper s sitting on the floor, when the clubmans were being introduced and this Cooper s sat there for about 3yrs, so it was brandnew but 3 years old (assumably everybody bought the clubbies cause they were "new") The fatory or whoever it was then got onto this and sent them out a new compliance place to replace the one that was on it, dated the current date. So there is/was a Cooper S dated 1973 getting around. So the story goes

My mate says he remembers changing the plates over.

Which if they were dated when they arrived at the dealer, to me makes plausible sence.

What NO WAY!!

Thanks Morris.

Where are they exactly? It appears to be on the upper dashpad, but where abouts?

Left side of the upper crash pad.

Somewhere I have it too that they were fitted to the last 20. I've got a pic (again somewhere) of the last one.

The Plaque on mine was on the upper crash pad just to the left of the ashtry. It seemed to be just glued in place.

Apparently, http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=59105&highlight=4th+last+1275

....although I was going to try to contact Wilson Bros. in Tassie to see if they knew any more.
