Just run the fuel line straight up the firewall and across the back of carb to float bowl. Length doesn't matter here.
Electric pump down the back is better, as it keeps the whole fuel line under pressure so less likely to get vapour lock.

Its really hot today on the coast 40.9C last time i looked.... Went out for a cruise in the heat....no idea why.... Car was sitting on about 200F most of the time, hit 220F on the hills....ive found this to be normal now, as this is the first summer ive had a mini through. My question is....what causes crappy idle after i start the car when its been running and the engine is hot. I can drive along at 200F and stop at lights, idles fine. BUT If i turn the car off, let it sit for 10 mins and the temp drops to say 190F and I go to start it i have to pull the choke right out to get it to not stall. After about 30 seconds of drving, i can put the choke back in and it idles fine. The mixture is fine as far as i know, I pushed the pin up and the idles rise, then settle. Note this only happens in hot weather. Im running a 1098 with 20w50 oil, 98 octane fuel, 1.5" carbie. Is this normal, or could something be about to kill itself ? |

where is your fuel line? maybe the fuel is getting vapourised then once you get goin the fuel pumps through and its ok, but when it sits there it may get vaporuised in the carbie or lines or somethig,,,,, just check they are away from the ezaust and stuff |

I'm not too sure this is a complete guess, but maybe your fuel is getting too hot? While the engine is running it must have enough vacuum to keep sucking the fuel through. But when you stop the engine and start it, the fuel is still heating up too much and not enough of it is getting into the engine, therefore by using the choke you're forcing more in. Cause I know on really hot days you'd see old cars starting to run out of puff due to the petrol getting too hot before it gets into the carbs, and having to pull over to let it cool down. I could be compelety wrong.. just an idea. |

Ah damn chris beat me to it. Edit: ah yeah that was the word I was trying to remember 'vapourising' Re Edit: Yeah don't run the fuel pipe behind the extractors.. It should sit in between the manifold and rocker cover. |

Its making sense. My extractors get horribly hot, and the fuel hose runs from the pump, along the firewall behind the extractors, under the carbie, then up to the float bowl. I figure I should re-route the hose through a cooler path and wrap my extractors in that heat shielding tape material stuff. Is there a recommended hose length from the the stock fuel pump ? eg, will a longer hose = bad performance ? |

I don't think a longer hose will be bad.. it fills the float bowl up, so as long as it keeps that topped up. Do you have a heat sheild on your carbys? |

Nope, no heat shield at all. So there is a lot of heat going all over the place where it really isnt needed. I havent had any issues until now...as it just hit 43.9 degrees where I am...so now im finding all the bad point of heat. |

I believe you will promote rust in your extractors if you do this....anyone else care to comment  Jet hot coating would be better
