heya there.. This might seem like a weird question, but yeh, i dont know! when setting the timing with a strobe on the fly wheel, is the factory line the ONLY place it should be set to?? OR Can i set it to where the revs seem to increase?? cheers. |

if you set it to where the revs increase, then when the distributor advance comes in higher up the rev range, the timing will advance too far - best to put it on the factory posi, and as you hold the timing light increase the revs and see where it advances to, and adjust that point - should advance to near the next line, at least thats the way my guru gets me to do it.... they run OK (when the points are set properly  )

You can set it static with a 12V bulb as described in the manual, at the single point described in the tuning spec, or at some point in the rev range where the mechanical advance has maxed out, around 4500-5000 RPM. To do this you need a timng light with the advance knob on the back. Dial in the max tiiming you want, disconnect the vacuum advance and run the engine up to 5K. Turn the distributor until the TDC mark is in the strobe then lock it down. Of course you could do it anywhere else in the rev range, but you have to know exactly what the advance curve is doing at that exact RPM, which, unless you have a distributor machine to map it, you won't know. |
