hey my damn mini wont start AGAIN...

Now there is no spark going to the leads!

have bypassed the battery via a jump start from another car, has oil.

it is strange because before x-mas it would start fine... it almost got going before but when i revved it, the car died down and stopped...

Mate

Check the points are OK, it can be a pain in the backside when these things happen but it is usually pretty simple to fix unlike more modern cars

would that mean replacing the dizzy cap

No just take the cap off and check the point gap and that none of them are sticking.. If the cap is damaged and therefore not allowing the dizzy rotor to make contact then you'll need to replace the cap.

Hi
A car that was running fine and then stops is almost never something complicated. Its almost always something simple. Dont run out and buy a new dizzy cap because that is not likely to be the problem. It will be because the points have closed or a lead has fallen off or something similar.

If you have spark at the dizzy but not at the plugs then its also something that you just have to systematically chase. If everything works (sparks) and it still wont start look at the petrol side of things.

Dont throw money into it until you can prove parts failure.

Check all the advice given in previous threads and private messages...check you have plenty of new petrol in the tank.

Does it turn over when you jump start it :?:

Well the battery hasnt got any power at all even after it has been running off a another car...

im sure as S**T that it isnt the leads, they were replaced when i got it... if th dizzy cap is playing up i can get another off my brother :D Rhymes! So it isnt a matter of $$

i am curious as to know why it would start when i put a drop of fuel in the spark plug holes and then die again, wouldnt that mean it has spark? and it sounds like its about to start every 2nd or 3rd attempt after leaving it charging for 2 - 3 min... it spits and sputters but no joy!

???

Now I am confused because your first post said it doesn't have spark but if it is trying to start after dropping a bit of fuel down the plugs it sounds like a fuel issue, it takes some time for the pump to pump up enough fuel if the system has been sitting for a while especially on the starter motor, pour a little fuel down the carby and give it a whirl if it doesn't keep running pour a bit more down it but if it doesn't keep running after a couple of goes there is a problem with the fuel supply maybe pump or carb bowl full of crap

that... belive it or not was my first thought!!! FUEL PROB... but my brother got me thinking about spark!

So then i checked that, fidled around with what you just posted bout fuel in carb bowl and thats when i decided to go...

i am thinking i should drain the fuel and start again!!

but why does it start if there is no spark? Remembering it did kick over for a couple of seconds (5 or 6)

I'm confused too.. did you take each spark plug out and check if there was spark on them all? If the spark plugs are dirty or carboned... then the spark maybe small (also causing missfire) cleaning the spark plugs never hurts either..

Yeah...if it trys to start and dies I'm leaning towards a fuel problem as well (leaning!..get it)....

I hope you are you cranking it over for a reasonable amount of time...as has been said...it takes a few moments for the fuel to get sucked up...

Siphon some clean stuff out of your other car if you have to...

the other possibility here is that the little darlings may have dropped something into the petrol tank and that could be blocking off the pick up intermittantly
