Whats involved in removing a steering rack? does the subframe need to be dropped? anyone done one?

Get a workshop manual it explains it better than I can.:)

Anyhow...
Yes the back of the subframe needs to be dropped a bit. 4 rear bolts in floor need to come out and the 4 top tower bolts (or nuts) loosened or removed.
Rack is removed from the drivers side, after taking column off and rack U-bolts out.

If it's a hydro, watch the hoses....! :wink:

I did my rack last week and in the work shop manual it says 3 hrs well it took my like 5+ and lots of invented words.

My best tip is clean the whole area with a HP cleaner first
Have spare U bolts
wear gloves as the blood has just stopped coming from my knuckles!

My best tip-
Before putting rack back in, try the U-bolts in floor holes from inside cabin.
In use they get spread wider.
They need squeezing in a vice a bit to make them fit again. Easier to find out how much this way, than under the friggin' car... :evil: :P
