Anyway, it's all a learning experience. So good Dr, are the guides the round disc like bits that the collets sit in?
..........
No, the guides are the round bushes in the head that the valves go into.
If the valves stems are worn as yours appear to be, the guides will be worn too.
Good practice is to fit new guides, whenever you fit new valves...

Dr...have you tried Phosphur Bronze guides

(not a trick question)
Yes Mick, I run them in Ha-Ha, which has plain S/S race valves (incompatible with iron guides).
No, they don't last any better than iron ones do.
And valve stem seals should only go on the inlets with these, as the ex ones need some lube.
Cast iron guides are less trouble, if using standard valves.
BTW in UK they seem to call these guides STEEL, but they are not so.
I've found you need to ream the bronze ones ALWAYS after fitting, as they shrink- but the iron ones don't seem to change size.
Some S/S valves these days have chromed stems, so can run in stock cast iron guides.
Many racers use iron guides with K-liners fitted, this gives the best of both worlds but costs more $$.. of course!!
