Post subject: | Drift flange from swivel hub? |
Hi guys, I'm cleaning up my front suspension/brakes, and I am having trouble taking apart the front hubs. MyMini manual says to "drift the flange from the swivel hub" - but I need some more specific instructions. Is there a trick to it? It seems to be pretty stuck in there. |

Assuming you've got everything unbolted ready it's just the normal mini thing of everything jamming together , keep trying to "wriggle" it slightly , possible a soak in wd40 or similar if you can get any in but try and avoid belting it with anything if you can , drive flanges can be fragile . |

Try to take the castelated nut off the drive shaft end, align the steering wheel straight ahead, jack the swivel knuckle up to make sure the drive shaft is horizontal and then place a bearing puller on the drive flange and centralise off the drive shaft. or Block of wood to back of drive flange and give it some loving 9LB hammer taps on the wood. Good luck |

I've found a slide hammer on one of the wheel studs works best. ![]() |

The flange should come out easily, unless its being held in place by suction caused by a lot of grease in there. I had mine out in the parking lot of a motel in katoomba packing them with grease so i could drive home without the drive flange wearing away before I made it back to gosford in one piece ![]() All I did was take off the drum, and pull out the drive flange. I had to wiggle it up and down and pull also to get it the lose the suction cause i had a HEAP of grease in there to stop it moving from all the wear on the flange. |
