Post subject:  Insurance... NOT HAPPY!

Well it's that time of year, time to renew the insurance on my 1275 LS.

The stuff come in the mail yesterday. Looking through, noticed that it come down a couple of hundred to insure... maybe cause I was getting older I thought. Well looked on the page with the car details. $3300 agreed value! NO WAY! It was agreed value at $5k 2 years ago, why has it come down?!

Just called them, and apparently $3300 is the market value. It's agreed value, but they are saying $3300. NOT HAPPY!!! The car has had alot spent on it (not including the stereo) and value has gone up $1700, not depreciated that much!

As it currently stands, the car is insured for $3400, so much for agreed value! The car is currently locked in the garage, it's not worth the risk driving it at that price.

Shannons will be the next call... they much know where i'm coming from! :?

Yer for sure!

It also makes it hard because i'm under 25.

Jan Small (Mutant Mini) is getting me a contact within Shannons that has helped her and alot of people she knows with their Mini's, so hopefully this contact can help me out.

I had the same problem when I was looking for insurance. Because I'm 21 they wouldn't cover me. Only two places that would were Suncorp and Racq.

A few years ago GIO did a semi historic insurance deal that was reasonably priced with wreck retention and other things so long as you told them it was an enthusiasts type car and said what you wanted , might be worth a look , not sure if they still do or not .

i rang rac 2 years ago an they laughed at insuring my van even after having several cars with them over the previous 5 years. So rang Shannons and insured it for $7000 with xtra cover on race seats, harnesses and full set of autometer guages. Oh and salvage rights, free window cover every year. And cheap as chips as other car with them too... couldnt recomend anyone better,

ps no extra to pay by the month!

I'm with everyone else, Shannons is the go. Most insurers can't get near them for older cars with agreed value. Most people (like who I work for) won't normally touch older cars as we know Shannons are that cheap that we'll just look stupid so we just tell them to go straight to Shannons.

The other thing you could do is insure for market value and if you were to have a claim prove that to get a replacement vehicle would be $xxx amount, but there is a bit of a risk going down this track that you might get screwed in the process of having a claim.

Shannons aren't that bad for under 25s (depends how young though), if you have historic rego they're even better too!!!

I have Beefa with Vigil and they seem to be treating me really well.
I also get 24 hour Roadside Assist with the insurance (which is a MUST with a Mini!).
It doesnt cost any extra to do it pay by the month, and I'm under 25 as well.

I'd recommend Vigil but it seems everyone else likes Shannons

Shannons are excellent - tried to get the other 2 cars (95 falcon and 03 Corolla) with them and they were pretty expensive on those 2 but they were brilliant with the mini

I'd never get so-called market value cover on anything, after what happened to my mate at work.
When he totalled the near-new XR6 whilst avoiding another twit, N*** took the wreck away. They wrote it off. It took 8 weeks for him to see any $$$$$ because, being market value, the longer they could spin it out the less it was worth.

Agreed value is the go, and like the rest of y'all, I love Shannons. Got 3 cars with them so far.8)

We also have an insurance policy with Shannons although its on a historic rego'ed car. Got it by phone at 8.00pm on a tuesday.

Another thing is the amount of money Shannons will tip at significant car functions. We are currently organising the motor car thing for the Mudgee " Wings, Wheels and Wine" and Shannons have been very generous - very generous indeed.

I tend to support any organisation who is in it for the benefit of the car as much as it is for their dollar.
