OK all of you who think they have a quick mini well this one will suprise you.
the land speed record for a 998 mini naturally aspirated with no body modifications is a measly 100MPH (164kph).
Im sure every one has gone faster than that.
To really throw a spanner in the works the lasndpeed record for a 1275 (1310cc) with a super charger is only 120MPH (196.8kph).

Who thinks they can beat that.

I Do so im trying to put a car together that fits within the rules with a few bits of help from my friends over in OZ and UK and put an international mini team together to compete against Don Racine (minimania) before he goes out for another attempt on the record.

When is the speed week at lake ayre (i think its spelt like that in south australia)

I dont think I ever want to be in a mini doing over about 160.

150 was interesting enough.

Is that 998 as in factory dead stock ? Can you apply any mods to it ?

Cause Kazjim and his 998 Turbo would probably make some good speed.

naturally aspirated is the class meaning no forced induction.

Space boy i some how think not unless it was down a very steep hill like a mine shaft with 20 of your best mates pushing it.

I had an 1100 modified to the max that was capable of 194kph in a mini van but that is not on a salt desert or on a dry lake bed.
Im not talking about speedo speed either im talking about proper speed that is measured by a gps or some acurate way of measuring it.

I've been toying with the idea of doing the whole land speed thing with an NA 998.

The world record for Production Coupe and Sedan with an I engine (750-1L) is 123.224mph.

Whether a Mini's brick like aerodynamics will let a HOT HOT NA 998 get there, that is another question!

So, what's got the worst aerodynamics then.. roundnose or Clubby???
We need to find out..... 8)

i'd think round nose would have the advantage, especially if you lowered it.

can you modify thier look? and still be in for the record?

Would you believe the clubamn is a more aerodynamic car and to top that off the van or station wagon is even more aero dynamic.Hence the reason they use the volvo in the european touring car series.
How did you find out waht the wolrd record is for a production car poeee? i have been finding little bits all over the show but nothing of substance.

Hmmm Jai, so a Clubby Van is the go then!
Haha, we got one of those now, just need to add HP.... 8)

Kev i also have a clubman van, i think i have a little bit of hp but I need a lot more than what i have already, Estimated about 240hp to break the 150mph mark so i think setting my sights on 130mph will take about 170hp, so stick 2 of your motors in and were almost there.
To get over the 120mph barrier the horse power has to go up exponencially and 120mph can be got with 120hp but 125mph will take about 140hp and so forth.
Need tyres that will run at that speed.

948cc A-series bored out to 998. Cooper 'S' head, 66LT cam, 45 DCOE Weber.
Conrod Straight Bathurst (admittedly down hill  ) Mechanical tacho and speedo both came right around the dial and sat against the underside of the stop - estimated speed from gearing about 190km/h. A Sprite without the windscreen has less frontal area than a Mini although it may not be as aerodynamic.

how long was it towed behind a V8 to get that speed. I have heard of many minis getting huge speed down con rod straight but it doesnt count as its down hill and slip streaming is not allowed.
But hey its not impossible to get there.
