Post subject: | Duel circuit master cylinder |
Is there any disadvantage over having a mini with a Duel circuit master cylinder over the single circuit, cause i have a brand new single circuit cylinder, but the tandem one works fine aswell although its is getting old, i am putting cooper s disc brakes and also wanted to know if the duel circuit cylinder will work ok. also what is needed to convert from duel to single apart from the master cylinder |

Dual circuit were fitted because of ADR design rules and the fact that itstill gave you brakes should a circuitfail. Minis are good at that. Having said tha, single circuit brakes were around for a long time before the dual circuit and legendary mini heroes like Paddy Hopkirk, Rauno Aalternen and Bob Holden had complete trust in the single circuit brakes. A down side of the dual circuit is that its fairly difficult to fit a booster on just one circuit and have even hard braking. Disk brakes use different sized wheel cylinders on the rears and probably have a different pressure limiting valve. Others on here should be able to give you specific change over information for wheel cylinders etc. I simply bolted a set of 7.5 inch discs on my mini and made no other changes and found the brakes were very good. I do not run a booster but i am not super sprinting or caning the car. |

We've got 2 Minis with S front discs, one has a Cooper S M/C and the other the late Clubby tandem one. Brakes work the same on both, but I needed to fit Cooper S rear wheel cylinders (5/8" dia) to both cars, to stop the rears locking during panic braking.. If you must have a servo (booster), just fit it to the front circuit. ![]() |

K7800X, I got from B&R Brakes but any brake shop can get. Made in Oz. Price is around $35. Unsure about plastic reservoir availability, or the switch. Switch is for brake fault dash lamp I think... ours is not hooked up (it's in a roundnose). |
