happened to me.
i thought it was my cv joints because of the "around a corner" theory.
got the wheel bearings done, turns out they were roooooooooted and the noise is gone

my wheel bearing is stuffed. makes horrid noise when going round corner, as if its got dirt all through it. i need to drive the car into town n back tomorow, can i do this or not. ill take it real slow. cheeers |

Are you sure it's wheel bearing and not CV joints?? I would have thought that stuffed wheel bearings make noises when going straight as well... When you reverse and full lock, does it make a clunking or clicking noise? if so then it's her CVs.. |

Cant say on the CV's but the wheel bearing will make more noise around corners. Jake the car up and on STANDS and do the 9-3 o Clock and 12-6 o Clock test with a friend holding steering wheel. Yer have a drive. |

just jack it up and grab the wheel at 6 oclock and 12 oclock and if you can move it the bearings need tightning up if not is it a grind or a clunking sound makka |

Around the corner is the wheel bearings as it puts more load on the bearings and the presure placed on them make them do it. But finding which one is only by the 9-3 and 12-6. More so the 12-6 as it takes out the CV's movement 
I still would check the tourk of the hex bolt as this still could have some play. Just replace them and you know they are done (it's not hard) I have done it on all four corners. If I can do it anyone can |

Hey I drove my car for months with stuffed wheel bearings - little did I know it! You couldn't feel movement rocking 6 - 12 o'clock - unless you *really* yanked hard and then lo and behold at least an inch of movement! That explained why my (disc) brakes pulled hard to the left, coz the RHS had to self-adjust on almost every application of the brakes, since the disc would be in a different place. And after I fixed that I found that one steering arm bolt had sheered of on the LHS, that explained the torque steer. I swear, I treat my car nicely! Can't think how it happened..... |

So are wheel bearings that hard to replace. Anton pointed out to me that my rear wheel bearing are stuffed. i know that they arent that expensive but is it a hard job to replace them. if i did it i would replace the lot. |

just did my front bearings this week, and must say that it is not a hard job. Id say the rears would be even easier. Get yourself a good mini repair book and go of that if your unsure. You will learn a heap and save a few pennies too. Dont forget to pack them with heaps of good grease. |

wats the best repair book u guys reccomend. i got the simple haynes on but doesnt show bearing and all those types of repairs mainly matience I really need to do it myself cos i cant afford for someone else to do it at this time.

i got my book from the mini place at padstow, they have 3 or 4 there around $30-$40. just look through them and see what suits you. I got the black leyland one, had the most info for clubbies and roundies in one book. |

both my bearings on the front need doing, as well as my CV boots, but i have a lack of talent/tools. 
if you're a newbie, and give it a shot, let me know how you go ... i might attempt it myself. |
