this hasn't happened before... the lights on my dash (all 3 guages in the standard oval binnacle - temp, speedo, oil pressure) were fading in and out (all together) when i was driving last night. when i took off from standstill, they were going almost like strobe lights, then once on the highway they would ****** a bit, then slowly fade out to almost nothing, then back bright again and kept on doing it. the light in my tacho didn't change, headlights didn't change, turned on the interior light and it was fine too... just the dash lights. any clues why this might happen? Thanks Geoff |

Check your fuse box. Bad contact on your fuse box would do that too. Mine did that just yesterday, no blinkers etc. Just cleaned the fuse and connections in the fuse box and good as new... But if it goes on and off it could be loose ground wire like Anton said... |

If its a round nose I dont think that the dash lights are fused. Assuming Negative earth -There is a single earth wire (black) supplying - to the entire dash instrumentation. The positive goes to the lights via a white\red wire (as opposed to the red\white for ignition?) trace all of those. Your lights might also be half loose in their sockets within the speedo assembly and are getting bad contact to earth. |

thanks guys that gives me something to check... the earth connection sounds like it might be the one, since all the dash lights were fading in/out together (all the other lights on the car are fine...) |

Check your 30 year old headlight toggle switch. Mine was doing it on the headlights a while back. ![]() ![]() <edit> I'd spray the wiper switch too, to be sure, to be sure... ![]() |

no one has mentioned the obvious - because it's Lucas and designed that way I figured everyone else had sensible suggestions. There had to be one turkey.. |

The dreaded earth problem. Had it yesterday with the 850 at Eastern Creek. Very embarrasing to have everything completely die coming out of turn three before we got over the hill. Happened twice on the way home too. ![]() |
