Hi all. I went out and bought myself another couple of mini's yesterday and was wondering if anyone here might be able to help me work out exactly what they are.. i Got a nice little Windowed Morris van. S/number YJBAV4R . Which by my reconing makes it a Y = Australian JB = Morris Van A = 848, 997, 998 V = Van 4 = Van MK2 R = ? And the other is a morris mini deluxe. S/Number YMA2S2 Now by the info on (( http://www.niksula.cs.hut.fi/~mdobruck/ ... /11/id.htm )) This makes it Y = Australian M = Morris (Saloon) A = 848, 997, 998 2S = 2 Door Saloon 2 = Cooper S MK1, Van Mk1 I am not certain that this site is correct though. Seings it is telling me i got a cooper s for dirt cheep. So my question is.... is there a site that is taken for gospel on identifying your mini? Thanks in advance |

Thanks in advance I have not found any website that has all the info on BMC/Leyland serial numbers. The best we can do is share the info that we know so that we learn from each other. ![]() I know a lot of bits and pieces of codes but I don't know all of them. JB = I think that JB = "Commercial Vehicle" as both Mokes and Vans use this prefix. R = I think that R = RHD. (Right Hand Drive) It looks like all the commercials had an L or an R at the end of the code to show LHD or RHD. A mini deluxe is YMA2S2 Y = Australian M = Morris A = 800cc to 999cc 2S = 2 door saloon 2 = the second variant of #YMA2S. = Mini Deluxe So it is not a Cooper #YKG2S2 or a Moke because the first letters are not the same. Hope this makes sense and helps. |

Ok so the coopers were only 1098 and 1275, being the prefix :G and the smaller bore, with prefix :A. were deluxe's I thought it was a long shot that it might be a cooper. Besides the amount of work that would be required to remove the tin worm would kill most men. I will go ahead with the scrap plan then. Thanks for that Morris 1100. Most apretiated. |

Thanks for that Morris 1100. Most apretiated. No Cooper was ever 1098. Over here, there were 997 Cooper, then 998 Cooper, then 1275 Cooper S. Unlike UK, our 998 Cooper was discontinued not long after the 1275S came out, its place taken by the Mini Deluxe (poor man's Cooper). ![]() |
