How much surface area do you think there is on the inside of a mini not including the roof. My plan is to strip the inside of the car completely(already mostly done except the back seat) and just put carpet everywhere just to make it look alot neater then it looks at the moment Right now its just baremetal and looks really dirst so im going to clean it all up and just put carpet up the walls and inside the door pockets n stuff. Anyone know how many square meters of carpet ill be looking at. Thanx |

i used 4sqm on my mini (2m length x 2m wide roll) to recarpet the whole floor and firewall, still had a little bit left over, but by the sounds of it you'll need an extra metre or so. Check out monster mini's interior in the members gallery, he's used a better material than carpet on the rear bins etc and its come up a treat. Way better than if you used carpet on the same place IMO. |

Put some soundproofing. There a few different types. Here's one thread on it - http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=7682 |

All I did was put a layer of soundproofing straight onto the floor and on top of that the carpet. There is no need for any glue if you use proper automotive carpet which from memory was around $20 for a 1mx2m legnth. The carpet is pliable and will come out nice and straight if you cut it right. |

For glueing carpet to the firewall, rear pockets etc I would use something like quickgrip (a contact adhesive) you can get it from all sorts of places (kmart, mitre10) the cheapest I found was a building supplies wholesaler, it was a lot cheaper. I wouldn't be putting sound proofing under the carpet for vertical bits (firewall) this means you would have to glue the sound proofing and then glue the carpet to the soundproofing which is just asking the sound proofing to split and have your carpet peel off ![]() IMO on vertical bits glue the carpet straight to the painted metal if you need it quieter still you might have to work out some sound proofing for inside the engine bay and or spray the sound deadener stuff on the outside. Put sound proofing / underlay on the floors it blocks out stones hitting the floors and is softer for your feet. ![]() ![]() |
