was just wondering, is it normal for the flywheel nut to be spot welded on? I assume it isn't but I am a noob
Anyway, if I am somehow able to get it off, does anyone in Adelaide have a flywheel puller I could borrow? Steve maybe?

thats not spot welded on, its just a little noob at the end, should come right of woth the right size spanner and some muscle.. i dought steve would borrow his tools out to people, but ask him anyway, make sure he is in a good mood or drunk tho

Buy a socket. I think mine was $20. You will need it more than once!!! Try to get one with a 1/2" drive, otherwise you will need a reducer from 3/4" to 1/2" drive. |

It's not welded on and it is a special bolt, not a nut. It's tightened to 120 lbft so you will need an 1 1/2" AF socket and a long breaker bar to loosen it and then the flywheel puller to get the flywheel off. You need to stop the whole flywheel assembly from turning whilst you undo the bolt. Jam a screwdriver in the ring gear teeth through the starter motor opening in the flywheel housing. Then depending on how it was tightened last time it may be easy or hard to get it off. If the bolt was overtightened last time it can be near impossible to get it off. Good luck. RonR |

If the flywheel won't come off with just the puller, try tapping it with a BFH through the starter motor hole, if it still does'nt move, try a bit of heat on the flywheel, it should come off with a bang noise. Remember, no1 & no4 pistons must be on TDC otherwise the split washer behind the flywheel can fall out & jam everything & that's nasty Good luck Blue |

Use also an old main bearing shell in the flywheel to lock it in place - I have never had one slip once. Hooroo Rob Forsyth Miniot!! |

Best thing I bought for my car was a 1 and 5/8 inch socket. Fits everything: Disc brake CV nuts steering wheel flywheel nuts some other large nuts on the other end of the engine. Also takes a good battering when it's needed as a spacer!

Also takes a good battering when it's needed as a spacer! ummmm, how'd you manage all of those with an 1 5/8 Aaron?? disc brake CV nut is 1 5/16", as is the steering wheel and the harmonic balancer bolt, and flywheel is 1 1/2" unless someone has been at ALL of your parts with some wierd size bolts/nuts... ? |
