I want to upgrade the 998cc engine in the LS but would it be better to get the original engine worked over or buy one that is already been done up??

Buying a modified engine would work out cheaper that getting the equivelent done yourself. However by doing your own engine you can control the cost better.
It all depends on your budget.

You know the history and condition of what you have....you may not know the complete story on another that has been "done up" or how well it has been screwed together.

9YaTaH, if I bought off a proper Mini engine rebuilder wouldn't there be a guarantee with the motor? And how would I know that they have done the right thing if they did up my old motor??

Yes....any decent engine rebuilder will provide some sort of warranty usually so long as you follow a running in procedure, oil changes etc

More importantly, the good ones will fix any problems within a reasonable time.

How would you know :?: thats the 64,000 dollar question....even the best have failures (especially when you are dealing with a 30-40 year old engine).

All anyone can do is go on recommendations and research their local engine people.
