My local mini advice place is still closed for the holidays so i'm not going to be able to track down a second disposable oil filter attachment to fit on the moke. The oil filter housing out of the 850 has ryco k12200 stamped on the top of it and I haven't been able to find any information on the web about it (substitute model numbers etc.). Anyone got any ideas? I had a look a supercheap when I was down there the other day and couldn't find the exact part or a substitute, is k12200 the actual filter part number or the housing number? tia guys Shard |

Not sure how much it was, as I got a few items, around $10-12 maybe, have seen them on ebay for around $7 but then there is postage.. |

I'm still a newbie when it comes to these, just make sure to replace the rubber seal in the top housing (after cleaning the groove and all other parts) and take note of the way it is assemled (washers/spring order)when removing so you put it back correctly... providing the previous owner put it in correctly last time.

ack had togo and do something, putting it back together now and can't remember which end of the filter element faces skyward (up), is it the small opening or large opening end? edit: also in my manual it talks about a pressure plate that sits on the bottom of the filter and on top of a washer, mine doesn't have this ?? Filter is fitted with small hole at the bottom. This filter assy was locally made and was fitted from 1966/7 till approx 1974 (except Cooper S).  Karcraft

ah yeh worked that out because the spring doesn't work if it's big hole down  .
I fitted it and filled it with oil and turned it over... oil started leaking out of the top of the filter !!!! I put it back together as is (including the big large rubber washer which wasn't there when I took it off but included in the air filter pack). What gives?  .
Tightened it up but before i turn it over again (and rush to clean the oil paper cause my oil catch is too high for the mini when it's not jacked) any suggestions other then tightening it.. i gave it a few more turns but it wont go anymore. Shard |

Shard You may have overtightened the seal 
are you sure that the channel where the rubber (neoprene, whatever) seal goes was clean and absolutely no old seal material in there 
All you need to do is slightly compress the seal so that it..well...seals
Try loosening it off slightly first, to see if that helps....then maybe pull it all off again and seeing what the seal looks like....might need another

Are you sure the old seal wasn't there, at first look with mine, I thought "where the heck does this (new seal) go", as the old one blended in with the housing and there didn't look to be a groove,seal or anything, dug at it with the old trusty screwdriver and it came out, problem solved..

I loosened it off, took off the oil filter again and checked the seal, it's fine damage wise. How the hell does it sit on the ring if i put it there it just falls off, I have to somehow shimmy around halfarsed holding it whilst tightening the bolt on the filter and hope that it just stays there right!?! As for the old one, i've felt there and prodded but all I can feel is metal, how come it wasn't leaking without an old seal on?? I'm about to cry seriously, this is my umpteenth oil change but this element filter is shitting me up the wall%!% |

There's a groove there for the new seal, but it wont stay there if i just put it on, is the seal supposed to have a snug fit because you can put this one off, but it just falls off while your trying to tighten the bolt on the filter. Can I pull off the housing with oil in the engine or do I need to drain it again? Shard |

If you pull the housing off, you shouldn't lose any oil from the engine, only from the filter bowl Heres what it should look like with the seal in..

It can be a pain if the seal won't stay in place while you are trying to tighten the bottom bolt....did you put a little bit of oil on the seal before gently fitting it into the channel If its real, real loose then I suggest a thing smear of chassis grease (shock horror) to hold it in place whilst you are a tightening
