Post subject:  Paint related Questions Help Me!

Hey me again I am now just wanting to ask in regards to removing all paint from my mini, I have been successfully doing so with an angle grinder but in fiddlier areas I have chosen to use paint stripper - Its working really well but how do I get the residue off?? I was wondering if metho was a good idea or not? My partner told me to hose it off but to me bare metal and water dont mix!!

Also in regards to a clubby grill I have bought a second one cos original got badly damaged but has more black paint on than orig. I prefer the chrome look would it be wise to try the paint stripper on the chrome grill to remove the black paint? And are there any grill badges that exist that arent cracked?? I cant find one in good cond. Any help would be so much appreciated!! Trixitrine
ps. I dont know how to upload pics so I have put the pic in my sig! lol hope it works

Your partner was right the paint stripper washes off with water.

If you have any paint bits of undercoat etc left behind after that we found paint thinners and rubbing with steel wool will get this off and have it looking nice

I think a couple of people have used paint stripper on thier grills (they will probably speak up)

You can make the paint stripper work better by covering it with glad wrap.

Yep, wash off with water, but don't let it sit there. Wipe it off and spray with WD-40 or similar. It will form a protective film.

Take the WD-40 off with prepsol just before you are about spray.

The black on the grille will come off VERY easy with paint stripper and a scrubbing brush dipped in water.

I stripped mine....then ditched it because I am not a huge fan of that look. Went back to original painted grille.

I bought a very decent grille badge from a wrecker for $10. I have 2 other clubbies, both purchased with decent badges....so YES they exist

I was advised against using stripper on the grill as it removes the "anodizing" then needs to be re-anodized for that polished look.

I was told to just use a really fine grit wet sandpaper to do this.

Some handy paint stripping tips here; http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic ... sc&start=0

Cheers,

Mine is back to bare metal but doesn't look as 'clean' 'shiny' as ^ Brown Clubmans one in his signature. Hmmmmm...
