Post subject:  I've lost the positions for the leads

Somehow, i dont think i have the right leads matching with the right cylinders.
i tried finding engine bay pics, and i looked at mine, and the dizzy was out of view.
So does someone know which leads go with which cylinder???

the firing order is 1 - 3 - 4 - 2 and number one generally is about 1 o'clock if I remember correctly I can't remember what direction the dizzy rotates though :?

I think it was clockwise to advance and anti clockwsie to retard timing so that would mean that the dissy rotor rotates anticlockwise right :?: :?

Yep, like that :)
Leads are 1-3-4-2 going anticlockwise

Yes 1-3-4-2 is the correct firing order.

To set that up - take out the spark plugs to make the engine easier to turn over by hand. Then take off the rocker cover. Carefully stick a small screw driver into the number one spark plug hole. Turn the engine until the screwdriver is at its highest point (be careful not to jam it with the piston rising - its only in there to tell you when the piston is at its highest point)

Look at the rockersand numbers one and two should be just rocking while seven and eight should have one valve down. This tells us that number piston is on the firing stroke. This is what we want.

Then take off the dizzy cap and the rotor button should be pointing roughtly towards 1 o'clock - this should also correspond with a lead which should then be number one. The next lead on the dizzy cap will be number three then number four then number 2.

occasionally a dizzy is set up 180 degrees out of round. The rotor button should be then pointing at about 7 o'clock - that lead is then number one etc. But only if the valves number one and two are rocking.

why anti clockwise? i always put mine on in order of 1 2 4 3 clockwise

because that's the way the dizzy turns when the engine is running,
and so the engine fires in the order of 1-3-4-2
