This morning I got to work and decided to pop the hoody and adjust the idle a tad.

I noticed that one of my twin HS2's was covered in condensation and was noticeably COLD to touch. The other carb was warm to touch, as you would expect.

How on earth do you get a COLD carby, when everything else is so hot in the engine bay? :?

I ported the log.... :lol:

I was doing this over xmas / new year and EVERYWHERE was closed. Even rang GR, but there was no answer. MIDEL's never got back to me TWICE :x I needed the car running so went back to the trusty twins :wink:

I have been googling and it seems that carb condensation is OK....but something must be out if ONE is doing it, and not the other!!! :shock:

Not sure about it either , is there any reason for one to be getting more heat than the other , broken heat shield or slight exhaust leak onto it ? Possibly the cold carb is doing 80% or so of the work and is colder due to greater air flow , have you checked if they are balanced right at higher rev's (assuming you've done all the normal checks and setting up) as well as lower revs ? DOn't know what else but I'd keep trying to figure it out in case there's a blockage or something that causes a mixture lean out on one side ....

aaahhhh....there is a point. With air filters removed I hear greater suction from the 'cold' carb.

Something must be up with the warm one.

ive heard of this it is called carb iceing can cause the throtle to stay wide open

I have mentioned a few times on here about carby ice but most people ignore it as something that only happens in freezing Goulburn. 8)

How was the weather this morning? cool and moist? Yes, I thought so!
Prime conditions for carby ice.

It sounds like your carbys are out of sync at idle and one carby is doing squat at the other is flowing twice the air that it should. If you re-set the idle (just open the screw on the lazy carb and back off the screw on the cold one) it should be fine. If they were both working properly they would both have been cool but not cold.

Carby ice can come in a few forms, if your throttle shafts are worn it will suck air past the bushes and the moisture in the air will freeze and jam the throttle :shock:
The other way is a build up of ice inside the carby blocking the flow and cause a bad misfire.
