Well, the mystery isfinally over, after 1yr and a half. Candy'sheads off now and it appears that she's a 1330 at the moment. Also this has revealed that there are 2 burnt exhaust valves and one piston is in the wrong way round?! So she'll be becomming a 1380 now, so i'll need some new pistons 73.5mm ones. Any idea how much hepolites or other reputable brands may cost? and where to get? I'm considering flat tops I'm also going to fix 2nd gear synchro and detent springs while the box is out. Cheers, Ray. |

don't go 1380, go 1360. Save one more rebuild before the block needs to be resleeved or thrown. make it last. There getting harder and harder to find. Cheers Aaron |

Unlike 1098s, the 1275 - 1330 etc pistons are symmetrical, so it doesn't really matter if round the `wrong way'. As all the rods are identical but 2 are put in reversed, it's easy to get 2 pistons facing `back to front'! "Dusn' matter"... as Con the Fruiterer would say. It is nice to get the pistons all facing the same way though. |

Well, it's been a while but Candy is now a week away from hitting the road again. Decided to go to 1380, the head and block have both been slightly decked due to slight distortion. Hpatec 73.5mm pistons, cooper rods and I think it's a cooper crank? Maybe someone can tell me from this pic ofthe short block? I love the colour!!
Head has resleaved valve guides, and slightly smoothed out the previous porting work. Wade 140 cam remains, just got the main journals rechromed. Titan 1.7 roller rockers remain and so does the 40 weber with 36mm chokes. Gearbox has been the hold up at the moment 2nd gear dog teeth were screwed, because of a damaged 1/2synchro hub. So I managed to find an excellent box to scavange from for $95. Shame it was a rod change box otherwise it could have gone straight on Parts and machining alone have cost $1700, luckily a mate is rebuilding it. Can't wait to hop in and run it in. Looks as though I'll have 1 week to try and run it in for the WA dyno day Cheers Ray. |
