saw this on ebay a while ago, looks legit. Might be worth investigating but unless you do a rebuild yourself you never know the true history of an engine.

I am thinking it might be an idea to buy an old engine, maybe a 1098 and get it stripped down and rebuilt..

Don't want the hassle of taking mine out, waiting for it to get rebuilt (which could take weeks?) then replaced. Much rather have one done up, pull the old one out and in with the new one..

That engine was about $900 about 2 months ago - so the price is coming down - send him a message and offer him $500

998 block bored out 40 thou...$600 :?
but you have one or two more bores to go and you can put a 1098 crank in it..
for that price I would strip it and check everything is correct and have a box ready
that way you could do it withinn a week 8) Gremlins permiting :?

Chong, a rebore and pistons is worth over half that.
then there's crank grind, bearings, cam, bearings, etc etc.
$600 is a good price if done properly. 8)

gafmo, I just had my gearbox rebuilt so that part is covered. One problem is it's in Coogee, NSW and I am in Morwell, Victoria so very hard for me to have a look at it or even pick up... :(

Looks like he reco'd it at home.... may be good though.

I use to be a reconditioner and we always masked off gasket areas and oil areas before spraying.

Also we would always emery tape the block top befor a bore and hone unless we were going to deck it.

Its the little things that make or break a full rebuilt.

I'd check to see if the oil pump has been filled with grease. If it hasnt then do so to get oil pressure when you try to crank it to get oil pressure (take the spark plugs out)
