Changed the oil today, heaps of room to do all the work

once I drained the tray back into the oil bottle I found this stuff sitting at the bottom of it

it was rubbery, anyone have any idea what it is?

Also, put in a bosch alternator. It says to connect the 'big black lead' to the starter solenoid and connect to the 'battery side' cable. Is the green circle where it's supposed to go?

The cable does not go onto the green circle. That is the starter not the solenoid. Follow the cable to the other end and you will find the solenoid and you hook up to the other side of the solenoid.
