I have just fitted a twin su manifold on my engine.
I was told it was off a sprite as the carby angle is slightly different to a copper s manifols.
That won't be a problem as i will modify the fuel bowl grommet.
The problem is if I fit an 1 1/2" SU to the right hand side the fuel bowl fowls on the clutch master cylinder tin can and the steady bar bracket and if i fit an 1 1/4" Su to the left hand side it also fowls on the left steady bar.
I don't have left and right carbies, i will be using 2 standart carbies but not sure of size to go yet?
Does anyone know how to solve this problem or have had a similar problem?
I might be able to replace the old tin clutch master cylinder with one of the new types and this might help a bit..

Without seeing it , it sounds like the manifold is too long and/or the angle so wrong that it just won't fit . A mini twin SU manifold fit's in neatly without the carbs (either a matched pair or two standard) hitting anything . Is there anyone near you with a mini manifold you can compare your's too and see just how different it is ? Any chance of putting a photo in your post ?

So you are deciding if you should fit twin 1 1/2inch carbys or 1 1/4inch carbys? what size is your engine?

I'd assume you'd have more luck fitting the 1 1/4 set.. but the left carbys float bowl is hitting the engine steady bar? Sounds like the manifold is angled down or way too short? Usually the heat shield will sit closer to the steady then the float bowl... do you have any pics?

When i got the manifold off a bloke yesterday we sat it against a genuine cooper s manifold and they were very similar in length just a slight difference in angle where the carby bolts on.
I have just taken it back off and measured it.
The angle is 20 deg.
Total distance at top is 64mm and total at bottom is 88mm.
These distances are measured from flat surfaces at their very ends.
Cant take any pics yet an send as i just cleared everything on my computer last night and havn't reinstalled photo program yet.
My engine is a 1275 lumpy cam ( not sure of size but was told it was a 40/80 whatever that equates to ) extractors and 1 3/4 pipe 10.5 : 1 compression ratio.
