there's normally only one, it turns on the guage lights, the other one may be for parcel shelf lighting |

ohhhh, you mean on the dash rail with the ignition switch... well, the switches there are wipers and headlights, if there is another switch under the dash rail, then it's been added by someone, and probably controls some James Bond type device, make sure no-one is standing in front or behind the car when you put power to it, just in case it's the rocket launcher.... it could be anything - one of the joys of having a 40 year old car, you never know what people who had it before you have done what year / model is your car - I'm assuming it's a roundnose |

A mate's 61 850 has two switches like that. It's a feature unique to very early Minis. One controls the speedo lights. The other controls a bulb behind the speedo which shines out through two opaque discs in the speedo housing. This is intended to be a light for finding things on the parcel shelf. Check the rear parcel boxes, they probably have lights in them too. ![]() Cheers, |

You could bypass the speedo one so you can't switch off the speedo illumination (who uses it anyway) and simply remove the other switch and wiring completely. |
