Looking to overhaul my braking system within the next week or two. As Im toping up my master cylinder every 2 or 3 days.....not safe...

What Im after is a list of things I might need in the overhaul.

(Not after brake drums themselves)

What I have in my possesion so far :
Front Drum Pads
Brake Hoses

What I know I need :
6 x Cylinders (4 for front, 2 for rear)
1 x Master Cylinder

Now, what small bits will I need to also purchase ? eg new adjusters, gaskets etc etc

Any ideas people ?

Thanx.

I think thats about all you need.. theres no real gaskets needed, but you usually get a small cardboard one with the cylindars... Are you going to replace your mastercylinder or just put a kit though it? might be cheaper.

Going to replace cylinder entirely. Looks very tired indeed.

It would not hurt to replace the shoe return springs as well.

Check the adjusters and replace them if they are stuffed. They may clean up and give them a coat of anti-seize.

Definately new shoe return springs. Don't lose all the copper washers, there should be one on the screw end of every hose just about. Don't forget to put them back in either!

Buy brake fluid! 2 bottles for good measure!

If you buy a wheel cylinders, note that they could be 7mm beeld nipples or some odd size like that so i would check if you have a good shifter of that size or another spanner of that size.

What about the pipes that have to be ent I mean you would have to take in the old ones to get them bent to spec but if you really wanna go all out you can replace the pipes at the front and the ones on the drum also the one to the sender unit

i know you said you didnt need drums, but just a thought...do you already have stepped drums? cos if you dont and in future if you want to fit mags...but i dont know anything about offset or how far they will push out your wheels or anything...just a thought...

also, if you are cashed up and doing a complete overhaul would it be worth investing in some discs???

Just had the brakes on my round nose done. First time we've done brakes on a mini, quite a experience.

Yeah, I emailed them and they put it up for me :)

Id go discs if i wasnt heading back to uni to study next month.....so my budget can go as far s $400 for the drum brake rebuild.

Im gonna give the metal piping a miss atm, cause the problems are with the cylinders, the wheels dont brake evenly at all. Prob. get the drums machined also...or buy new ones.....cant decide.

You Know Max, $400 would go a long way towards paying for a Van . . .

I'd happily split it with you .. you take the discs, I'll take the 1275 . . . sell the Van as parts (or secretly finish it . . . he he he)

Think about it . . . I"ll call Dan later this week . . .
