Post subject:  advice on buying brakes.
i have to make a desicion :? .

i can buy cooper s disc brakes for $1400. which to me is alot money...and mabey to a few of you.

one day i am gonna have these brakes fitted. so here is the desicion.
should i buy these now, because they wont be this "cheap" for long?
or should i wait and gamble for something cheaper to come along?

i don't really want alternativs i want cooper s brakes. so i can fit 10"s on.

please give me your advice. please :D !

it is $1400 hundred for the brakes and everything need to fit them and make them work. an extra $400 to have it all fitted there. but i know some one else who says he'll fit them cheaper even though he dosen't know how much the other guy says he'll fit them for. a place in syd said they'll fit them for $2300.

options fit them there for extra $400

have friend, long time mini enthusiest dose all the work on my car and owns a cooper s and clubby van in pristeen condition.

go to syd have them fitted there for $2300(well obviously not)

but what bout the other two. i'll have to make a few calls tommorrow to get estimates and confirmations.

Did you happen to email a certain place about disc brakes and have them tell you you have to buy them now cause they are going to go up in price and the current price is really cheap ?

Cause I did....and the price hasnt changed 3 months later.

no i called a place and they said, and i know this for a fact that because i got "estimates" on prices last year,that since last year the price has risen from $1200 as well as having them fitted-too-$1400 without been fitted.

this is a place in Lismore

i want imput people.

Personally I'd go Cooper S brakes.

I was considering buying the $1500 set from minisport but have gone with the cheaper option of just getting my drum brakes running at 100%, atm my mini is not putting out enough power to really convince me to put $1500 into a set of brakes. If I can spend 300 or 400 getting my drum brakes going good, them im happy.

BUT, if I had the cash available id get New Cooper S brakes in a second. At least with something like that, that is new, you shouldnt have any issues with them and will last you a fair fair while hopefully.

Only other opetion is to source some Cooper S brakes that need a rebuild, but even rebuilding them your looking at an estimate close to the cost of New S brakes from what I have been told.

Makka these are usually sold in bits- you won't assemble bearings & CVs, fit together and adjust balljoints and put on car in 2 hours!! :lol:

I agree buy new, unless they are real cheap. :wink:

Don't forget to change your rear brakes...
otherwise the brakes are useless!

what you mean change the rear brakes, don't they stay drums? yes they do.
do you ean make them better. please tell me the pros and cons.

and i still want a estimate on how much i should pay to have them fitted max.

You never know unless you ask...
The rear wheel cylinders need to be changed to 5/8 size...
this increases pressure to front wheels, and helps stop the rears from locking up.
Check your shoe wear at the same time.

shoe wear is bloody low, i know this cause of school mechanics.

so your saying becasue they are drums all round now they were made so that the drums would on the back would work more effectively to help the drums on the front due to the facked they are drums and although i have tried very hard, they won't lock up and if the back was looser i would never stop.
so becasue the drums on the back would still be working hard they would lock up the back tyres.

(drum front)The drums on the rear had a bigger wheel cylinder to increase stability when braking.
This upsets the braking and bias/balance when 7.5" brakes are fitted.
Sometimes you can fit the discs and not have a problem.... normally this is when your rears are stuffed
