Post subject: | Dyno test disappointment |
Hi, I wrote recently about dirty plugs. I did what the Dr said and fixed the fuel float as well as adjusted the fuel mix. This fixed up my dirty plugs. I thought since this motor has been fully rebuilt(professionally), I will get the motor Dyno Tuned. The motor was bored 40thou(1310)and everything else is standard MK1 Cooper S running gear. The vehicle is quite sluggish to drive/rev, which is disappointing as other vehicle I have had with similar specs have revved hard and are quite nippy. The only thing I am not sure about is what pistons were used 9:75 or 8:8 compression. The compression at each cylinder is 190. Part No of the pistons is 4MKRY2272 if that means anything to anyone. Even if it had low comp pistons, I still thought a 1310 motor would rev/drive well and be nippy, using BP ULP 98oct. Anyway the the Dyno test were disappointing with a low 21KW@93KPH in 3rd gear and 131N.M@60 KPH. Is this normal the vehicle feels about the same as a standard 998 to drive. Very disappointing. Thanks |

Sounds slightly low to me. Stock 998 should be around the 30hp mark from memory but then again, it all depends on the dyno. Each one is different and usually for small numbers they are innacurate... |

Sounds very low to me.. My 1152 got 35Kw at the wheels on a dyno dynamics dyno.. On the same dyno ..the lowest 998 put out 17.5Kw...best 998 21.3Kw.. With a 1310 putting out about 38.7Kw... |

Where was it put on the dyno? BTW, 21kw x 1.341 = 28.161HP |

Yes, I knew that, I just did the conversion help those who equate mini output in HP, not Kw. ![]() |

Speedy, i was commenting to 69 red dwarf, you got in before me by a minute or two ![]() Sorry sherman67, but I suspect the dyno you used reads quite high, i seriously doubt a 998 bored to whatever would put out that kind of power to the wheels, or even crank.. To put it into perspective Ron Wever's 1440 put out 61Kw to the wheels (81.8HP) |

Hi, After driving the car home from the Dyno, I was shattered as I stated in the previous post about its poor drivibility and results. As I drove in the carport there was small amount of coolant coming out of the overflow.. After the car and myself had cooled down, I went and checked under the bonnet/radiator, etc. On inspection I noticed the timing inspection cover missing one screw. So at least I knew that the timing had been checked. I then checked the dizzy and noticed that the dizzy was not set back in its recess and could move freely by hand. I started the car and adjusted the dizzy by ear. I took the vehicle around the block, you would not have know it was the same car. I got on the phone and politely let the mechanic know about my vehicle. Going back tomorrow for round 2. Thanks |
