Hey, I've seen a couple of times lately (from Brickworx it think), Rover Mini, with import papers comply yourself. So basically.. im just wondering what needs to be done in order to get the car complied and how much this would generally cost. I assume that there would be different things to be done for earlier rovers compared to the later injected ones? Thanks for any info in advance. Andy |

You'd be better off buying a complied car from them. Compliance requires intrusion bars, tyres, seatbelt changes, etc. It doesn't work out as cheap as you'd think either. The intrusion bars have to be welded in, and will produce spots on the door paint. Thats a pain in the ass on its own.

Plus all the associated ENGINEERING costs. Definitely not cheap (if its done correctly) to "have a crack at it" yourself. |

I'm going to buy one of Steve's comply-yourself cars because I've got a complete 1999 Rover cooper that was t-boned in Japan. The shell is cut in half but I've got all the bits to build Steve's car into a runner. I've got one door with an intrusion bar in it already from the 1999, the other was rooted. I've also got the rear inertia reeler seat belts. Just need fuel filler restrictor $30, door bar for passenger door (hoping Steve can spare one), two child seat anchorages $50 the pair, stickers for unleaded only, tyre placard and emmissions, shell repairs and paint. Engineering approval in Qld will cost me $80 from the guy I got to do the big blue mistake. It will be a pain in the butt but it will end up just like a 1999 cooper with only 26,000km on the clock. If I didn't already have the complete car's worth of gear minus the body I wouldn't bother. M |

Here is the donor car in Japan: Must have scared the owner when that happened! 
And here is what it looked like by the time it arrived at my place: 
Seats, carpet etc all came with. Now I can't wait for Steve to arrive with the shell. |

Why not keep the green one, plenty more legroom in that one?
I bet the driver was grateful the hit was on the passenger's side, and whilst it is hard to tell from the angle of the original photo it appears have kept the intrusion passenger compartment to a minimum. What colour body shell did you buy off Brickworx? |

Hehe. There isn't a straight panel on the car. It must have been hit then gone into a barrier. Boot stoved in and grille bent too. Passenger seat frame was bent but I was able to straighten it after removing all upholstery. Rear sub frame looked straight but was bent at the mounts. No blood in the car, which is nice. I dunno what colour the Brickworx body is, never bothered to ask. I know it needs substantial work so whatever it is now, it will be painted BRG with white top & bonnet stripes. Have had a quote for painting all the visible bits at $1,200 maximum if I prep it, so the risk is the amount of rust work. Not too scared, late model panels are readily available. I've only got 12" steelies at the moment so I'm on the lookout for some mags. Can't decide if I like the Sports pack look. They all looked a bit over the top to me when I was in London. Also I need to sell some of the stuff from my suzi project donor car first... Too many projects, so much fun! |

BTW, the grille moustache got here in one piece. Of course the airport security reckoned it looked too much like a samurai sword, so I put it in the hold as special baggage (wrapped in bubble wrap) and it was first off the plane.
