Post subject:  Engine number - what size engine do I have?

Hi everyone, I'm at a little bit of a crossroads with my Mini.
I bought her as a 1275, but I don't really trust the information I was given, since the guy I bought her from seemed a little drunk, and didn't seem to know too much about cars.
I was just wondering if it's possible to tell the engine size from the engine number (1015/7739), and if so, can anyone help me?
Thanks a lot :D

What is your car? ie: what year and model? what is the chassis number too? I don't know that much about minis but i'm sure people on here could help. More details on the car would make identification easier too. I thought that engine numbers were a combination of both letters and numbers.

lol at buying a car from a guy who was drunk. :D

Ooohhh, I'm a twit - and I'm blaming the hot weather :P

It's Clubby, 10/74 build date - I don't have anything else on me, and my poor little car is baking in my boyfriend's parents backyard right now (so I can't get anything else :( ) The number is from the block, and the rego sticker, it didn't look like much of an engine number to me either:?

The guy we bought it from was a bit of a character - he was selling all of his things because the government are apparently compulsorily(sp?) acquiring his house. He had a sign out on South Road saying "Mini for sale $300", talked himself down to $100, and when other people came along to inquire, told us not to tell them how much we were going to give him and told them that we were buying it. He also left us at his house for 20 minutes while he went to get beer, and offered us a joint when he got back. It was an interesting experience, to say the absolute least.

And- bugger. I was really hoping it was a 1275. Probably too much to hope for considering I got it for $100, but it would've been nice.

The engine in my car is 1015/10780 which is supposedly from a 75 model and it is an 1100.

Yep any engine number starting with `10' is an 1100.

1275s all start with `12' unless they are Mk1 S ((9F/Sa/H) or Mk2 S (9F/XE/Y).
