PM `wombat' on this forum, he can sell you an electronic one cheap, so you can throw that 1950 technology away. I use them in both cars.

I bought a $7 voltage selector kit from Jaycar, ditched the selector resistors and, from memory, replaced them with a 3.3k ohm resistor to give a theoretical voltage or 10v.The measured voltage turned out to be a steady 9.9v.Place it into a small jiffy box and stick it behind the speedo. Seems to work well so far and its all mounted securely on a proper circuit board.. |

wombat uses a 10V voltage regulator chip, he just puts a couple of flying leads and spade lugs on it. 3 wires: 12VDC in, ground, 10VDC out.
no need to put it in a can with his latest version. |

And Wombats one is a single transistor ! you can even put it inside the original "Can" if you want..... Not saying yours isnt good Drekkus, but the Transistor one is superb... Got one in the Brick... not a single problem in over 2 years so far ! J |

Yeah, I tried going with the transistor method but for some reason I couldn't get it to work, It just kept overheating.The kit was my second choice but I'm happy with results. |

My fuel gauge jumped to full 3 days ago and stays there (obviously it does go back with the ign. off). Does this sound like a dead volt. reg.? Temp gauge seems to work ok btw. |

It could be. Those old 10V so-called voltage stabilizers do weird things when old. Usually whan they go dud, you get either 13+V or 0V. But mine used to give 10V at idle, then the faster you went the less it gave, due to vibration. So the fuel gauge used to drop with speed, then when I stopped it came back up. 
I flung the stabilizer and fitted wombat's electronic one, and it's read fine ever since.
