Hi guys I'm new to the forums and new to mini's ![]() I've liked them for years but had my current car for 8 years now and it's only good in a straight line ![]() ![]() Anyways I'm looking at a mini currently and it's in excellent nick but I'm unsure if it's a bit overpriced or not so your opinions would be greatly appreciated. It's a 1983 clubman imported from South Africa. It has the 1275, tartan interior 13" superlites? and the body is excellent condition- no rust and paint in excellent condition aswell and low miles. I went and had a look at it the other day and all seems good. I'm yet to take it for a spin. The price is $8g's with reg and rwc. What do you guys think?? |

Not sure on the price but a couple of things to check , it's a 1275 but does it have disc brakes ? South Africa has different laws to us and I used to own a South African mini here with 1275 and drum brakes , rego/insurance nightmare as they aren't legal here . Also check that it is registerred as an imported vehicle and not as just another Aussie mini . If it's anything like the one I had it should be very quiet and comfortable though and have about 150kg's or so of extra soundproofing . Also , does the 1275 have the oil filter screwing directly onto the block with no external oil pipe ? If so , the opil filters were a tad harder to find but still possible . |

It's currently registered but NOT totally sure as what. The filter is into the block at front top mounted. It has drum brakes as I asked about this. The driver/passenger window is all 1 piece as opposed to the two piece. |

club man email me the pics [email protected] For it to be complied here in Aus, it would have to meet Aus rules which means that if it has a 1275 it must have discs. However check this anyway. $8 g's is at the top end but for an excellent car with a good 1275 and disc brakes its on the money. Plus itsa a bit different being sth African |

May not be so important since it's in good condition (and I'm also not sure if parts are interchangeable). But being a south african clubby it may be even more expensive and hard to find parts for it. |

As I said , oil filter is an odd one but is sourcable , engine internals are common late model 1100s , distributer should be held in by a single bolt holding a forked bit of steel plate (prone to wandering) and everything else in there should be fairly easy to get . Windscreen is normal but all other glass is the same as the jap import or Mk3 or later pommy cars . I don't know personally about the clubman panels so can't comment but I'd guess they'd be close enough to use local bits if required . Interior should be common with later English/jap stuff and should be available if needed but would be a bit dearer than local bits . The rubber cones on the South African mini's were a bit softer and gave a better ride , plus the extra sound proofing they used added weight so it should be nice , quiet and smooth to ride in . Just make sure it has been complied here and is registerred properly or you could face a lot of bills at a later stage . |

Thanks adeee Thanks for the great advice sports850 ![]() When you say things like filter is sourcable, do you mean no spare parts joints have it and I'll have to find a good wrecker/mini spare parts joint?? |

Where are you located exactly mate? 8g is a lot for a mini but if you buy a cheaper one and it needs some work done then you could quite easily end up spending 8g in total. It looks awesome in the pics. |
