Post subject:  releasing the rear dampers??

hey everyone.

im fitting hi-los, and thought id start with the rear.

im not cutting them out, so i have to free up the damper.

the nut inside the boot area, is where id like to start..but im not sure how. i put a spanner ontop, tried undoing it, but the whole thing spins freely..i think the damper cover is attached and it just spins.

is there a second point where i should have a counter acting spanner??

cheers

Should be a flat sided or square section above the thread where you can hold a shifting spanner whilst using a ring spanner on the nut , ratchet ring spanners are great here otherwise it can be a bit of a contortionist's job ....

ahhh okie...i tried that but it slipped and i thought i was wrong...

will give it a better go tmrw.

ummm the left hand side...the fuel tanks in the way...is it just the one bolt mounted at the rear near the boot opening??

has a flexy hose so i think i can just wiggle it outa the way.

oh yeh..its a clubman by the way.

cheers.

Yeah , loosen the bolt holding the tank strap , take the fuel cap off and duct tape the filler neck and then see if you can ease the tank out of the way enough being careful not to crack fuel line in case it's brittle . There could be a drain tube hanging down through a hole in the boot floor to watch for as well so just go gently till you can see if it will move .
