Post subject:  Fuel Guage not working
Hi all,
the other day my fuel guage stopped working and as yet I've been to lazy to look at it. Any ideas? :? Is this a common issue? I thought I'd check the tank first and the connections at that end before I start pulling out the dash.

Before anyone asks, yes it has fuel, other wise it wouldn't go....

On older models the float is prone to falling off the arm of the sender unit.

May be worth checking, but i am not sure of rover set up.

Be careful when messing with fuel tank, there is a battery in the boot too remember!
If removing the sender unit, make sure there is less fuel in the tank than the hole left by the sender.

Everything would still be the same as the Aussie Clubman's. The dials are still the same. So considering that, the comon fault with a dodgy fuel guage is usually the sender. 8)

I've got a dodgy fuel guage it works backwards from 1/2 to full I tryed swaping the connections then it stops altogetther :?: :?

Just check that you have not knocked a wire off the sender when you have put something in the boot.

Wires look to be connected ok on the sender unit. I'll get a multimeter and check the resistance on the sender. Kind of hoping it won't be the circuit board on the dash.
Don't really wan't to do it today though due to the heat.

I had a similar problem in mine, then realised i'd run out of fuel. but seriously when i fill up and am hooning to the road the fuel indicator allways starts to read 1/2 full, then less and less, yet when it has the key in the acc position before it is satrted it works all the way. Bizzare.

Geez, mine stopped working the day b4 I took it off the road for reconstruction. Now, 4 odd months later, it's still sitting lazy, even after filling.

I put a multimeter on the wires at the sender end with ignition on and a strange thing happens.
Well, 'least I think it's strange ?? :?

Is it normal for the voltage to vary, changing about 3 times a second,
ranging anywhere from 2.2v to 11.9v and anywhere inbetween?

I thought it may have been petrol or something sloshing around affecting this,
perhaps with the varying voltage telling the guage what to show,
but it does it when I disconnect the wires from the sender and use a earth elsewhere on the body.

Any ideas :idea:

If I was a smartarse I'd say something like

Maybe your GAUGES would work properly if they were spelled GAUGE not GUAGE !!!

But I'm not a smartarse so I wouldn't say anything like that. :P
