Post subject:  Speedo cable

Should the inner cable slide out of the outer, when the motor end is fastened and the speedo end is out?

Just a bit of clarification - is this the speedo cable, or the accelerator cable we are talking about?

Okay then the speedo cable. Hmmm I'm not too sure - I've had the cable come out from the speedo end when the outer was still attached, though I'm not sure if it was supposed to. Well I didn't want it to at any rate. I'd say it would definetely come out easier if the outer is undone, and it would be easier to get the cable back in again, it can be a pain to get the cable aligned right so that it actually slides in.

Its just a simple square ended flex drive, and will slide straight out of the cover(Mine does, anyway).

Getting it back in might be a right pain in the butt though. Push it all the way in until it stops, then turn the cable until it drops in another step which means it's engaged the square drive in the speedo. Ya should be able to affix it back to the gearbox then

Hi Plls.
Replaced Morris cable on the weekend what a sod of a job. I could not get the engine side of the nut fully tight (tight enough but will check it again on the weekend) Yer if the screw on section is still atached the engine you can pull the cable/line ?
Morris cable was broken engine end (just checked) and replaced it for one from karcraft $19.75 for a centre binicale one may be a little more for a clubman.
If you can replace it before the engine goes in

Yes, you can pull the inner cable out from the top, with the outer still attached to the box

cheers for that. I thought mine was stuffed when I slid the inner out the other day.... (thats a mouth full)

Should you lube the cable? Is there a proper method for doing this? I reconditioned my steering rack on the weekend and was amazed at the fact you need to fill it with 200ml of SAE90 oil!

I use a bit of Castrol LMM grease, except top 6". Don't let it get up near the top! If it gets into the speedo U got a problem..
