hav just completed rebuilding a 79 moke. every thing has been done execept that i need to put a new needle in the carb as it does not run as smooth as it should. when i asked one mini place, they said try a H6 so i did but the problem got worse. it could only ever drive it with the choke pulled out a little. i have since heard that a DZ needle is a better option as a H6 is a little more suited for 998cc engines. my moke has an 1100 engine with standard cam and head. it runs a single 1 1/2 su with standard exhaust. does any one else have a similar setup that could help me with some info on needles. can any one tell me what they use if they hav the same specs as me., any help would bee great. thanks |

When you inserted the new needle did you adjust the mixture and or advance or retard the motor? steve |

the motor was retuned and after the new needle was put in. there a no air leaks and to get it to run the mixture adjuster had to be wound back so far that it almost came out but then it would stutter at mid revs and be a real piece a crap from there up.????? |

The only car that had the 1?" SU on an 1100 motor in Aus was the Morris 1100 Auto. They had a bit more compression than a standard 1100 and double valve springs. The Book lists the following needles..... DL (standard) ED (weak) BQ (rich) |

...you know not what you have asked, grasshopper ![]() this is only a start - there is soooo much stuff on SU's it can get confusing very fast. It took me a year to work it out myself. http://www.niksula.hut.fi/~mdobruck/sii ... -tune.html http://www.moreg.org.au/carburettors.htm http://www.triumphclub.co.nz/su_carbs.html |
