heyyyaaaa

Well, i think ive discovered why the number 2 cylinder keeps fouling plugs.

I shined a torch down through the sparky hole and can see a crack along the piston.

engine still goes strong..think ill just run it in dead and then upgrade to somthing larger.

any tips? or stories like mine??

nah, ive had the mini for about 5 months now, and its had the problem the whole time.
so id say the previous owner may have been the cause.

I part seized a piston at Wakefield Pk track last Feb, drove it home 150 miles... :lol:
Bore still ok. Piston is pretty S/H...... :shock:

this happpened to me, except i musta drove it till it broke off :shock: , first thoughts was a blown head gasket, until i pulled the head off. Only to find that i was missing a chunk from my piston head, and the sore deep groves inside the cyclinder. So bad it was too deep to rebore, my advice it to pull it out and do something with it before the block becomes unusable :x

i cant afford to do anything with it at the moment..its only 998, and when im able to upgrade i was thinkin 1275.

it sux tho.

Well if the piston falls off the conrod the engine will be toast along with the gearbox and probably everything else too.

If you can't afford it now, it will sooner or later go bang and it could be that nothing will be salvageable from the 998 :shock:

yeah, why do people do that to minis, when something breaks they just keep driving it until it really lets go, taking most everything else with it :cry:

a s/h motor and gearbox will be cheap and easy to swap over in a day

when you restore the engine you do the gear box!!

i did say im going 1275, so im not fussed about the tired old 998 that is basicaly stuffed anyway.

does it make a knocking/tapping/slapping sound?

i wouldnt keep driving it if it was farked,
i had a similar situation, and i just bought another ok smallbore for cheap

revs smooth....only starts slapping when plug fouls...rev it up and it sorts out the plug...if not i take out the plug and clean it

I have never replaced a mini engine. i dont know how.

as a temporary measure, run a hotter plug on that piston,
but swapping a motor is really easy, you just need someone who has done it to tell you each step, but motor out and new one installed in a day

mini mechanics boast of being able to get a motor out in 30 mins

At the moment im using 12NYC plugs...champions...dont think they help all that much.

try some bosch BP7ES plugs. they stopped my old engine fouling.

That is an NGK number and COLDER than STD!
I run them on track days...:)
