The front subframe is what bolts to the body up front under the bonnet. It allows the engine to bolt to it and all ancillaries, it also contains all front suspension and steering components..

Looks like that...if you pop your bonnet you will be able to see it..

Would be taken out if it's rusted, or someone wants to repaint it..or to make it easier to work on and replace bits..

Fantastic that is so helpful thank you heaps, ive kept that picture so i can do it....

this is the mini i got, its on ebay for $780

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... %3AIT&rd=1

1976 Leyland Mini S, unfinished project.
The car has been stripped and have started
sanding back, rust has been cut out (there was very little)
the engine has been removed, ran very well before
removing. Comes with all parts including brand new back
and front windscreens and seals, and many more.
(car was complete with all parts before stripping so
comes with all.) Forced to sell as have no space for it.

and this is what the owner said about it....

the body doesn?t have many dents, from memory there is a dent on the front below where the number plate goes and maybe a couple of small dents elsewhere but nothing major, I have cut most of the rust out, I think there is still a little where the battery sits, the body will need sum filler and possibly a plate wielded in one spot where rust has been removed (small hole) as far as I know gauges ect work but are not fitted to the car (but are included. It has all four wheels and tires, the engine and front sub frame is not in the car but are included (ran and drove well before removing) the body is light so shouldn?t be difficult to put on a trailer. I started stripping the car back over a year ago.

is it very hard to put back tgether again if everything comes with it?? i can weld, grind, bolt, unlike most girls and i have common sense. so im thinkin it will be pretty easy ive done an old falcon before (not the motor) just the body and interior..

please give me a rough idea of difficulty.. thanks :)

Post subject:  Get some help

You probably could figure it all out yourself, however...

You should get yourself a good workshop manual...

I also recommend you contact someone in your area who knows Minis (check Ausmini)....

For instance, you could just fit the engine to the subframe and offer that up to the body (at least a two man (or strong girl) lift because you sit the subframe and engine on blocks then lift the front of the body over it from behind (usually with the rear wheels on so you can roll it up to the subframe). There are items that can be damaged tho if you are not careful or don't know what you are doing...

There is no shame in asking for help with Minis and it is sometimes half the fun doing stuff like this with buddies :D
