I'm thinking about getting deep 1-5/16" and 1-1/2" sockets for flywheels, balljoints, hub nuts etc. i know i can borrow them from people various, but there's nothing like just popping into the garage and pulling something apart without any preplanning. question is - are 12 point or 6 point sockets best for these applications? michael |

No matter. Whatever is cheapest, NO WAY will you break either, even Chinese ones! ![]() BTW, new hub nuts are now 34mm hex (because made in EU), your 1-5/16" won't fit. I'd buy a 34mm instead. Will still undo a 1-5/16" no problem. These big size sockets are 3/4" drive. Rather than buy deep ones, I got standard- I welded a 5/8"A/F 1/2" drive socket on top of the 1-1/2" one, so it's plenty deep enough for balljoints. ![]() |

I bought a set of `Genius' Metric ring/OE spanners from Toolworks at Blacktown. They have since moved to McGrath's Hill. ![]() |

id get 6 point(single hex) sockets. these grip stripped or rolled heads way better than 12 point (double hex) sockets. saves heaps of head aches down the track. |

![]() Why would that be. A lot of professionals now use them in the trade. I put them where Minimax used to be. Good tools at a good price seems to be the opinion of everyone I know who has used them. I get them from Verdon Bros in Port Kemble but they are available on line http://stores.ebay.com.au/Borrys-Online-Bargains Be aware that 1/2' sockets of this size can bend crack bars etc and if you can afford it 3/4'' is better, having said that I have never had a problem. I have gotten some for some other guys on this forum and they have never expressed any concern with the quality. Nearly all the tools we can buy are now made in Taiwan, the only one definitly not is Stahlwille. There are even doubts about where Snapon is made and they are overpriced even if made in the US. Minimax is available online at http://stores.ebay.com.au/minimaxtools- ... stribution These are good tools but their pricing has moved them upmarket. Snapon is readily available from the US now online and is a bit more realistic in pricing than the Oz distributors. I have had some Snapon ratchet rings for about 30 years and they are still going strong. They were bought when I was in the US as the pricing here has always been over the top by a long way. |

A small point. All good sockets this big will be single hex. I dan't even know if you can buy multi point in these sizes. |
