Well I called Shannons this afternoon and added another few grand to the insurance policy and then took Putt Putt for a spin down the street got to the first round about and died in the bum, not enough fuel turned the key back to aux for a few min and then was enough fuel at the carb to get me most of the way (100m) back home....

I am running a HIF44 and an electric fuel pump mounted in the corner of the rear subframe - this one

with a fuel filter b4 the fuel pump and one before the carby

When you put your foot on the accelerator the car it revs up then almost dies then revs up (a little higher) and almost dies and then revs (a little higher again) and then almost dies ........

Has anyone ever had this problem or could tell me how to fix it?

That sounds like a blocked fuel filter.

just bought a new filter and fuel is coming through nicely but still same problem.

I am presuming that the weekend will require a carby rebuild or would pulling it apart need a carby kit???
Taking the bottom off the bowl would i need a gasket to put it back on?

My HIF6 does exactly that only when when hot started. Will run on full choke but cycles >>> Rev-like-mad >>>> die-in-arse >>>> rev-like-mad >>>> die-in-arse. etc until the fuel going through cools. Then it runs like a kitten.

I put it down to poor (temporary) location of my fuel pump in the engine bay, above the tank. This means the pump has to suck fuel up from the tank. When the fuel is warm the vapour pressure is high and it just gets vapour lock. That's the theory.

It could be needle & seat. I know my bi-metallic strip in the float bowl is ok.

Mine ONLY does it hot. How about yours G?

Since this is a new instillation, it means that the carby has been standing for some time.
My bet is that the rubber ring around the choke mechanism has gone hard and it allowing raw fuel to enter the system. Its a common fault as Australian fuels are not kind to rubber seals.

If you havn't already, put a kit through the carby - most of them need a kit after their little trip to OZ. The kit comes with an exploded diagram and its easy to follow.

Sorry it was not the filter. My next guess would be what Mike_Byron says with the choke O-rings. From what I recall these are a slightly odd size O-ring but some of the pommie places do good ones made from Viton (the green ones)

Took the carby off tonight so might be time 4 a kit - any ideas on what they are worth?
