Post subject:  Instead Of Flares
instead Of using flares who here has ever thought of getting your guards tubbed and lipped. ive been thinking about this for a long time and was wondering on if anyone had ever done it and how fair is it possible to Tub the Guards out? Eg by inches. it would cost a arm and a leg For a good Job but thats Why they are Professionals I would never even attempt it myself considering it could take weeks of beating to Get each guard Even and level.

I guess it's possible... but it would look strange wouldn't it? They would look too high in my opinion. Why don't you like flares?

Or go the full bodykit route , maybe try and find something that isn't popular down here and get it in from England or wherever . Either that or have a go at doing it in fiberglass yourself (build it in foam and then glass over it), at least you'll know then you'll be unique . Personally I've always liked the big "fortech" arches , big mother's of flares that look really good smoothed into the bodywork . Just need some really big rubber under them , they are supposed to be racing flares but look good in the pommy mag's on street cars .

Wouldn't tubbing cause hastles with the petrol tank(s) being where they are in the rear :?

if you new a good welder, you could fabricate some cool steel ones :? , then weld them to the car, and fill in the hole at the bottom, i recon thatd work

i had thought about it , vbut too much work for the look.
(they would still look like f/glass flairs in the end )
just mould in flares or go with mk 2 coper s flares or mini clubman S flares . they look the best imo

there was a car in miniworld years ago that had 44 gallon drum strips welded in as flares thay looked very nice :wink:

I've been thinking that too recently.I was thinking more of the lines of cutting the lip and flared panel off another model car, then somehow welding it to the panel and smoothing it in. Dont know if its possible but i can dream about it. Plus i'd have to learn to use a welder!

Last time I was at miniimports he had a car there where the guards had steel flares in them. I couldn't pick how it was done, I thought someone had stretched the steel out a good inch. Either way looked great. Maybe he'll post a pic if he reads this. :D

Here is a picture of some gaurds that have been flared professionally, they look real nice and not an after thought like a lot of flares.
