So... faxed off my application of "Approval to Modify". Only modification i listed was the engine change - to FJ20DET. I didn't specify that i was going to change brakes, suspension, wheels, etc. I will only do that if they WANT me to... So in a few weeks or so I should getting a letter back saying what is next for me. That is all. Wish me luck. ![]() |

"I will only do that if they WANT me to... " Wow..... Personally, BRAKES and SUSPENSION would have been first.... THEN extra power, but hey, I've got stuff to live for...... J |

I'll do them slowly as i feel the need, but to start off with (if they will allow), these things won't come in priority. They have disc brakes standard, are a decent size, and pull up excellently with a 1800cc motor pushing it along. |

I would doubt they will allow it without some form of brake upgrade. Some people have been able to get away with a mild engine upgrade & original disks by specifying they are upgrading the pads to Greenstuff or similar |

The big bitch is you only have 12 months that their specifications they provide are valid, after that it can all change again. If you work at my pace, that sucks. |

Bill got a letter in the mail today. Theyve given me the OK. They want engineering reports for: Lane change test Brake test Rigidity and torsional test. And thats all. So the stocky brakes may pass the brake test. It'll definitely pass the lane change test. Rigidity and torsional test should be fine... i suppose they want someone to say "yep, its factory convertible blah blah passes this and that" So willy = ![]() |

Basically, you check the number and function of cupholders, ash trays and places where you can store coins for tollways. |

You got it willy. Was originally called the "moose test" cause in Sweden you have to swerve around the moose & back into your lane without rolling or losing control ![]() |

The torsional and rigidity test are the ones that are going to be hardest to pass, its not just a matter of looking at it, the car will need to be tested on a compliant rig and the test results written up by an engineer, same as a clubman kit car has to pass and costs about $1500 to have done |
