Either way its a rebuilt 1100, you can't buy a new one so its either rebuild the one you have or get a rebuilt one supplied
:D

hmmm i would be sayin a little more than that,

I would say about 1500 for a short motor (no head or gearbox or ancillaries (sp))
around that figure anyways. thats new rings, pistons, crank grind etc. give your
local mini places a call. it may be cheaper to just buy the short motorand put your
head and gearbox on there.

if you put new rings in then you will have to at least hone the block to make
it worth while. maybe just try getting the head reco first. it could just
be the valves, it will be cheaper than new rings

It is usually the case that if it needs rings it needs a rebore and new pistons and the crank will need at least a polish and new bearings just for a start, there are no short cuts in rebuilding engines not in the long run any way. probably looking at $2-2500 for a new recon engine supplied and fitted and more if you do the gearbox which you really should with a mini

hmmm , hate to say the obviopus mate, but i think you just need to
bit the bullet and get the motor out for a full rebuild, I got a 998 reco short
motor for 1500 a few months ago. I think that is ver reasonable
