What do you want to do with it? regardless i would take it to a mini specialist. I wouldn't just let any mechanic touch my mini..but that's me. You will most likely find if it needs to be pumped up they/you will need a special tool to do so. likewise you may find that you end up funding your local mechanics training on mini's as he charges you to learn how to figure out to fix things ![]() |

As part of a wider answer to the question, find a good mechanic who knows older cars. Minis used to be so prevalent that all mechanics knew how to work on them. Add all the 1100/1300s, Maxis and so on and you'd pretty much guarantee every mechanic knew how to work on hydrospastic suspension. I have a mechanic who does my WoFs and more demanding (time consuming) mechanical work, and he knows old cars well. Younger guys have probably never heard of points, condensers and so on. In short, find a local mechanic you can trust. |

A good mechanic? It can get worse, The local mechanic I used to get registration inspections done at sold up, his replacement (looked like a kid fresh from school) wanted to fail me for a non-retractable seat belt. His words as he sat in the car, "this seat belt is stuffed, look how loose it is". At which point I grabbed the end and adjusted it until his eyes bulged. I then got in the car and left, yet he had the authority to issue pink slips! |

Well, Laurie noticed by the number of exposed threads on my rubber cross driveshaft unions that one was worn and advised me to find replacements while I could, knowing they would be rare. He works on all sorts of cars, but I trust his knowledge over a much larger garage. |
