So is this a legitamet (sp) was to lower a dry mini? I would like to do this
on my 74 Clubby (obviously dry). I have heared that it is not good to do this,
but if using the correct measurements from Vizard, is there anything wrong
with doing this?

I would fit Hi-Lo's but i dont have the money,,, and this car has got to drop some

Have you got a lathe?
You'd only be removing about 5mm tops I'd imagine.
Much more and you'll need spacers again.

I've found it to be safe , just make sure you double check the measurments and ratio's as they are different for the front and rear , just can't remember off hand . One was 1:5 (front?) I think and the other 1:3 ? In other words for evey inch you cut off that's how far the suspension will drop , a little cut will make a big difference to height so make sure you get the measurments formo a reputable source , if you're using Vizards info then you should be right .

thanks mate!

Its just once i was contemplating doing this and someone said that
it is not a good way as it stuffs up the suspension and that Hi Los were
much better,

But the way i see it. it is basiucally the same principal. you either have a short metal
bar (hi lo) or a short trumpet.. no real difference?

And remember , you'r only cutting 1/4" or so off anyway , not actually weakening it . All I'd suggest is to choose a cooler method of cutting it off , with a hacksaw or on a lathe as opposed to a grinder with a cutoff wheel .

It's the other way around- fronts are 1:3 and rears 1:5.

thanks.

So is it worth cutting the front also? im not replacing the cones. so they may be
flat from the engine. how much does it lower the car. I dont want it to be riding on its
bump stops

1/4" off fronts will lower 3/4" approx.
cut them straight...

Thank's Kev , couldn't remember off hand and couldn't be bothered searching since czerial mentioned having the books . I've seen what happens when somebody decided to lower a mini all round by two inches , removed all 4 trumpets while the car was on stands and cut two inches of each trumpet before refitting them all .... Bump stops all the way around :o ...

Just check that there isn't some spacer washers on your knuckle joints already you might not have to cut anything off

There was also a bit about lowering minis by cutting the trumpets on minimania's website here we go this looks like it:
