Post subject:  Window rubber instalation?
hi,
I just intalled the front windscreen using new rubber - took AGES!!
sore fingers too :?
Can anyone offer hints on installing the rubbers,
especially new ones, for front and rear windows :?: :idea:

I used some soapy water - no more tears with pH7 diluted.
Would rubber grease be better?
Should you use a sealant? (read that on another forum ) - I wouldn't think so?
Is there a tool? I used a plastic scraper - filed all sharp edges - worked ok, no damage :D

They'd have to be easy compared to the rubber!!? :shock:
or is there something obvious I missed?

Cheers pete - a fine site too thanks JAM.
I used the right technique then, just didn't have the tool. :roll:
I found that pushing on the rubber from the inside helped.

Got the back one to fit yet ..

EDIT: I just checked in my manual (inaccessible last night)
expecting it to say "installation is reversal of removal" or some-such.
The tool used is 18G 468, the instructions are same as JAM's 'sept
it says to lubricate with soap & water, and when cutting the fill strip,
"allow a small overlap and then force the ends into position."

what i did to install the rubber was place it all round the outside of the metal..... then place the glass onto it.....then spray wd40 round it and pull the rubber over the top of the glass with a screw driver( flat blade with tape on the end.....so u dont breake the glass or scratch your car like my damn mum did...lol) it takes ages and is hard.....

well i did it that way..... theres prob an easier way but yer...
